Coach Dave Lapin is the former coach of the Vandegrift High School Lacrosse team. He grew up playing lacrosse in Central Nassau County in Long Island, N.Y. He later became team captain and a leading scorer in NCAA Division 1 while at Georgia Tech. He represented the United States in the World Games of Lacrosse Masters in Perth and Windsor, and he has played for notable men's teams such as the Crease Monkeys, Long Island Jesters, Atlanta Lacrosse Club, Austin Lacrosse, Team Texas, and Adidas Magic Wands. Coach Lapin has been engrained in high school lacrosse in central Texas since 1988 where he helped start the Westlake High School program. He was an assistant and then head coach for many years. He started the Westwood High School program where he was head coach for 8 years with a record of 89 wins and 12 losses during his tenure. He has coached many high school and collegiate All Americans and has helped to provide opportunity for many young men to play at the collegiate level and develop their human potential. A passionate lacrosse coach, he is referred to by many as the "Godfather" of lacrosse in the Austin area.
Kelly Wunsch studied mechanical engineering at Texas A&M and played professional baseball for 14 years with the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Milwaukee Brewers. Throughout his playing career he garnered a reputation as a hard worker and great communicator, making radio and television appearances, penning an online newspaper column, and delivering regular broadcast commentary. After his baseball career, Kelly settled in Austin and he has been building homes in West Central Austin since 2007 and is a licensed realtor with a lifelong hands-on interest in design and construction. Kelly has been a regular contributor as a color analyst for the Round Rock Express radio and television broadcasts. He is committed to ensuring youth sports remain fun and he understands that kids can learn valuable life lessons while on the practice and game fields. When not at work or with his family, Kelly is usually coaching his sons in youth sports and making a positive impact on the lives of many of Austin's kids imparting values of team work, hard work and fun. He lives in West Austin with his wife, Jessica, and his sons Fischer and Reece and he owns Kelly Wunsch Homes which specializes in building eco-friendly homes.
James Barborak played Longhorn lacrosse for two seasons at his alma mater the University of Texas. After many years away from the game, James rekindled his fondness for the game when his son decided to follow in his dad's foot steps and explore lacrosse. His son plays attacker and he is a first year elementary school player who has caught the lacrosse bug so badly he has made lacrosse his extracurricular sport of choice. A certified public accountant, James volunteers and devotes his spare time as a Lightning Division Youth Lacrosse coach where he applies an all-inclusive philosophy and emphasizes fun and fundamentals. The Eagle Scout focuses his efforts on ensuring young boys learn proper technique and that all develop a fondness for the nation's first game. As a former collegiate player and as an active coach and parent of Austin's youth lacrosse community, James is committed to ensuring that the Central Texas lacrosse community grows in a healthy and positive way. Although he is a part of the sport's past in Austin, his involvement within the youth lacrosse community is leaving an imprint on the future of Austin's lacrosse community. James is a lifelong Texan and Austinite and has two children, 8 and 10.
Dr. Georgia Ann Pitcher is a former faculty member at Indiana University School of Medicine and she has also been a faculty member at Butler and Purdue universities. As a psychologist she specializes in child development and she has served as an expert on childhood education and behavior for a multitude of legal and social organizations. Her educational credentials include degrees from Purdue University and Butler University. She is a mother of four, grandmother of eight, and she has 8 great grandchildren. A well-respected and published child behavior researcher, Dr. Pitcher has over the past 50 years carefully examined social environmental impact on a child's emotional development. She has also examined the negative impact coaches can have on players' development and performance when coaches mistakenly treat children like "miniature adults" and expect them to perform as adults in sports scenarios. She is a licensed Indiana state psychologist and she also is licensed as a school psychologist and kindergarten through middle school teacher. Dr. Pitcher currently resides in Indianapolis.
